“Ben Lohrberg’s singing is a revelation.” – Revue West Michigan; “Tony” in West Side Story at Hope Summer Repertory

Ben is a Minneapolis-based actor, singer, songwriter, director, and teaching artist. He has performed Off-Broadway in NYC and at top regional venues across the country. Locally, his work has been seen with the Guthrie Theater, Ten Thousand Things Theater Co, Park Square Theatre, Bryant-Lake Bowl & Theater, & Pillsbury House Theatre through the Chicago Avenue Project. Following a sold-out run of his solo cabaret, “Dream With Me”, at Feinstein’s/54 Below in NYC, Ben released a vocal album of the same title, now available on all music streaming platforms.

Ben spends his summers as a member of the Theatre Faculty at the prestigious Interlochen Arts Camp, where he teaches High School Musical Theatre Voice and Directs the Junior Musical Theatre Production. As a teaching artist, Ben has worked with students of all ages in Minnesota, Michigan, Indiana, New Zealand, and his hometown, Danville, Illinois teaching private voice as well as workshops Audition Preparation, Acting Technique, Shakespeare, Performance Creation, Physical Comedy, and Stage Movement. Ben was additionally influential in the development of Hope Summer Repertory’s Emerging Artists Initiate, a program that gives high school students in Western Michigan the opportunity to work with a professional theatre company in the development of a new musical. The inaugural EAI program culminated in a fully produced world premiere musical adaption of “Cinderella” which Ben directed to sold-out audiences as part of the Hope Summer Repertory professional season.

Ben is a National YoungArts Winner in Spoken & Musical Theatre, and he received his training from Interlochen Arts Academy, the University of Minnesota / Guthrie Theater B. F. A. Actor Training Program, Chanson Voice & Musical Academy and Shakespeare’s Globe in London, England.

If you like learning in an environment filled positivity, collaboration, and laughter, then you are in the right place. My teaching method is focused on the balance of FORM and FREEDOM in the voice:

“Form” is the technical side of singing. In our lessons, you will gain a strong foundation in classical voice that will apply to any musical genre: musical theatre, folk, rock, etc. We will cover a variety of topics such as posture, shaping, resonance, and vocal health.

“Freedom” is what makes singing joyful and completely satisfying. It is also what makes your singing like no one else’s. Pulling from my background as an actor, our lessons will incorporate storytelling, emotional expression, and individual personality.

The bringing together of FORM and FREEDOM is what makes singing an art. It is the exciting combination of a skilled and flexible voice, paired with the depth and beauty of your unique expression.

Based on the student’s needs and desires, our lessons may include discussion, images, vocal exercises, listening materials, or performance repertoire. Whether you are here to learn a new skill, or to enrich the world with beautiful music, I guarantee a learning environment filled with joy and positive growth.
