Paul Kinkade has performed in symphony orchestras, rock bands, jazz combos, brass quintets, and electronic music recordings. He has played the piano since preschool, and at age twelve began studying the guitar and the trumpet. Though he has strong classical training, his music has always been contemporary, with an emphasis on jazz in recent years. He is a creative musician at heart, with years of experience in composition and improvisation in many different genres for many different ensembles. In 2017 he received his Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of Minnesota.
Paul is easygoing and positive. He designs a unique curriculum for each student based on their interests and needs. He can teach in traditional ways, or he can teach through call-and-response, improvisation, imitation, aural learning, transcription, and other organic and intuitive learning methods. He believes in the importance of music listening, having role models, and studying the music that you love. He often plays by ear and believes it is a learnable skill that can help you connect more deeply with music.
