Matt Hannah: Guitar & Songwriting

Matt Hannah, Guitar and Songwriting Teacher

Matt Hannah has performed as a guitarist and singer-songwriter for 16 years.  He is currently completing his fourth studio album, which will be titled House of Illusion.  His most recently released album, Dreamland, received a full length feature in City Pages, and was voted a KVSC top 88 album for 2017.  He has performed extensively throughout the Midwest including at the Midwest Music Fest and the Cedar Cultural Center.

Matt started playing guitar in elementary school. He studied for 9 years with Zig Zeitler, founder of White Crow Conservatory of Music in Saginaw, Michigan.  After moving to New York City, Matt took lessons with Richard Lloyd, legendary guitarist for the band Television. Most recently, he studied jazz guitar with St. Paul guitarist Joel Shapira.

Matt has taught guitar and songwriting for 16 years, including for a Save the Music Grant for the Harlem YMCA. He is comfortable teaching rock, blues, jazz, and country music, and also loves helping students write their own songs.

Matt is an easy-going teacher who likes to help students find and follow their own goals and interests.  He believes students learn best when they have a passion for the music they are learning. He enjoys helping students accomplish goals beyond just taking lessons, which could range from performing a song for a friend, playing an open mic, or even starting a band.  Matt has loved and lived for music since he got his first cassette tape in 2nd grade and hopes to share that enthusiasm through his teaching.
