Evan Shallcross, a violinist and native of the twin cities, holds performance degrees from Oberlin Conservatory (BM) and the Yale School of Music (MM). Along the way his major teachers have been Taichi and Robin Chen, Milan Vitek and Syoko Aki. He has performed and held positions with major orchestras in the United States and abroad, including the New Haven Symphony, Minnesota Orchestra, Macao Orchestra, City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong, and as concertmaster of the Gustav Mahler Orchestra of Hong Kong. He has also been active as a chamber musician, co-founding the Hong Kong Chamber Music Collective, and as a soloist, conductor and composer. In parallel with performance, Evan has followed a passion for teaching and coaching students and ensembles of all ages and levels.
The opportunity to collaborate in the process of growing through music is a true privilege. I hope to affirm the value of each student’s perspectives and offer my own constructively as we work to define and move toward new goals. Along the way the development of discipline, skills and understanding should be in balance with a sense of agency and creative freedom, to patiently build a musical foundation that supports curiosity to explore new things.
