Benjamin is a St. Paul based tenor who has been seen on theatrical and operatic stages across the country. His recent credits include Steven Kodaly in She Loves Me with Artistry Theater, Remendado in Carmen with Mill City Summer Opera, Harry Houdini/Will Conklin in Ragtime with Asolo Repertory Theater, and Charles Guiteau in Assassins with Theater Latté Da. Ben also made his NYC debut this winter in the critically acclaimed Latté Da production of All is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914 at the Sheen Center for Thought and Culture – a production that he has toured with regionally and nationally since 2015. Ben has also worked with companies such as Trademark Theater and Skylark Opera, and also has been in multiple world premiere productions with Minnesota Opera – most notably playing Bobby Lembeck in the premiere of The Manchurian Candidate.
Ben was born and raised in St. Paul, graduating St. Paul Central High School before attending the University of Redlands. He received his Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Minnesota in 2015, having studied with John De Haan. Ben has also studied with notable singers such as Andrew Wilkowske and Chad Johnson, and continues to study and hone his instrument with Mary Kay Schmidt.
Good singing comes from an understanding of the voice as an instrument. Just like a trumpet or flute, we need to learn to use our breath and our body to create a healthy, resonant, and beautiful sound.
I believe in teaching a strong foundation rooted in a technical understanding of what it means to “sing” – such as how we breathe, how we exhale, how we feel our resonance – and also what it means to bring musicality, character, and expression to singing. The way we sing is just as important as the way we embody what we are singing with our physicality. A solid classical technique is the key to good singing in all styles, and I pride myself on how I’ve applied this philosophy to my own singing career. Together, we can figure out how to accomplish what your goals are as a student and help you be a better singer, no matter where your path leads!

If less notice is received, I will not be responsible for rescheduling, and will still require payment (barring extenuating circumstances). In an event where I must cancel a lesson, I will provide ample notice. I will then reschedule with the student or parent.
24 hours’ notice is required for all non-emergency cancellations. Payment is still due in full for cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice.
