Whether he is performing at popular venues around the mid-west, building vintage oil can guitars, or teaching blues for kids programs, Joey Flip’s dedication to music is without question. His hand-made oil can guitars, “Hayburners,” have been sold all over the USA and have been featured on FOX 9 News, CNET, and The Drive Magazine.
Not only content with performing, Joe also serves as a music teacher and promoter of Blues for Kids, a music education program he created at the 501c3 non-profit organization, “Discover Music”. The program is known for organizing workshops at schools and festivals with the mission of teaching children of all ages about the Blues music genre with harmonica and guitar.
Joe teaches students of all ages and experience levels. He enjoys breaking down the challenges of the guitar into a fun step-by-step process and helping students learn their favorites songs! Joe incorporates a variety of music theory, learning how to read sheet music, chord progressions, and playing scales. His specialties include playing lead guitar, solo improvisation, and playing the blues. Joe also provides sheet music and homework for his students so they can constantly improve in the art of guitar playing.

I loved every moment of it. Joe is the nicest guy that I’ve met but yet he’s firm. He is very patient with me and the reason I can state that is because I know nothing about music, or anything related to music, and yet at the end of the day, I learn something new. I’m 24 years old and having an instructor like Joe, has given me motivation to never stop learning about music. Not only that, he was honest and from the get go, he told me it’s not going to be easy, but with my focus and his help, we will be able to accomplish my goals. He’s very down to earth. Talking with him and learning from him seems like another hang out with a good friend because he is very friendly. If he can help someone like me who was a stranger to instruments and knew nothing from the start, I’m convinced he’ll be able to help you too.
Joe is a most excellent guitar player. Also being one of the most charismatic gents I have ever met, truly you could not learn from a nicer guy. He can having you playing in no time.
